  • Khrushchev claimed that missiles sites were only for national defense.
  • Khrushchev realized that his missile and bomber forces were no match for the U.S.'s Navy and Air Force.
  • Khrushchev accused America of piracy.
  • On October 25, Soviet Union oil ships were allowed through a naval blockade where their missile ships were forced to turn around. 
  • The U.S. government had secretly offered to remove missiles in Turkey in exchange for the missiles in Cuba.
  • On October 26, Kennedy planned an attack on the Soviet Union because they were still producing missiles. Khrushchev sent a telegram to Kennedy offering to dismantle the sites if Kennedy would lift the blockade and promise not to invade Cuba.
  • An U-2 plane was shot down over Cuba, presenting signs that war was coming.
  • Kennedy agreed to lift the blockade and not invade Cuba. He, also, secretly agreed to dismantle the Turkish missile bases.
  • The crisis was over.
